In the framework of the program “By the Children, for the Children”, supported by the Swedish International Development Agency, on 28 and 29 of June 2018 we hosted , in the Library of the Ivanaj Foundations in Tirana, a training course entitled “Strengthening the capacities of children and young people to advocate their rights”.

The youth of “Tirana Youth Parliament”, as well as the +16 youngsters from Durrës, Elbasan, Burrel and Peshkopi, were among the 50 main protagonists of this event.

During the first day of this activity, Ms. Klodiana Thartori, one of the external experts, worked with the young guests through a detailed agenda. They focused especially on problems encountered in each city, and local advocacy initiatives, bringing together children and young people.

The second day followed with an informative session to familiarize the audience with  the Public Institutions,  led by Ms. Ervjola Osmanaj, Officer for the Rights of the Children.

An open discussion was shared by the Ombudsman and the Commissioner for the Rights of the Children, Ms. Erinda Ballanca and Ms. Nejla Peka, as well as the presentation of Mr. Robert Gajda of the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection from Discrimination of young people.

The training ended with a visit to the Parliament of Albania, where the children met with the Deputy of the Albanian Parliament, Mrs  Vasilika Hysi and the Parliamentary Group “Friends of the Children”.

It was a great pleasure to welcome such a significant project in the premises of the Ivanaj Foundations of Tirana, and we thank all participants, organizers and trainers who worked together during these two days for youth and children’s rights.
